Girls Football
Horowhenua College Girls 1st XI Football were lucky enough to be able to attend the NZSS Girls Football Tournament week in Hamilton. This was a fantastic experience for many of the girls who have never been away for a week long sports tournament before. We also had a number of senior student who had been away and were able to lead the younger team members. We faced a number of teams during the week from much bigger cities and towns such as Auckland, Hamilton, and Tauranga. The girls faced many challenges and we were happy with our third placing. The team started the week positively with a 1-0 win. This was a very tough game and we were happy to get the win. We then had some great results, winning 2-1 over Otorohanga College, 3-1 win over Matamata College a 1-1 draw with Hamilton Christain College which we won on…
Netball Tournament Week
This year our Nua A team travelled to Wellington for the annual Lower North Island Secondary School Netball Tournament. This was the first time that the tournament was played inside at the ASB stadium in Kilbirnie. We played a total of nine games with three wins and six loses over the span of five days. I would like to commend the team on the way they not only represented themselves but also their families and our school. We finished 22nd which was an improvement from last year. We bid farewell to our Year 13 student Jemma Baines who led her team well on and off the court. We have a young team and look forward to competing again next year. Also a big thank you to One Foundation for contributing towards accommodation and travel costs for our team. Nga mihi Whaea Vicki Teacher in Charge Netball Photo: Pulse player Maddy…
Black Cap Surprise for Young Cricket Fanatic
Article courtesy of reporter Ashleigh Collis at the Horowhenua Chronicle. A Horowhenua College student is the first girl to have played for Levin Old Boys Cricket Club in its entire 100-year history. Erin Buckland was recognised by the ANZ Dream Deliveries programme and had the opportunity to meet some of her cricketing idols when she was surprised at school and whisked away to meet the Black Caps. Erin, 13, was stunned when her coaches, a camera crew and representatives from the ANZ competition showed up in her social studies classroom mid-lesson and whisked her away on a mystery bus ride. Arriving in Wellington, she stepped off the bus at the Basin Reserve and came face to face with cricketers Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham, and Mitch Santner. Erin, and other members of her Horowhenua and Kapiti cricket team, then got to participate in a special training session with the…
